New Born You were not one of us

was born from Greek parents in
the Romanian town of Braila and spoke Romanian, Greek and French before
she first encountered English, the language in which she now writes. After
the war she moved with her family to Greece, which was then ravaged by
civil war, and from there to New Zealand, and finally to Sydney, where
she now lives and works. The Alien, her first collection
of poems, was published in 1973, followed by Thirsty Weather, 1978, and European Notebook, 1988. She has also published four novellas. Absence, new and selected poems, appeared in 1992. Po válce se vystěhovala s rodiči a bratrem do Řecka, kde v té době vládl chaos občanské války, a odtud na Nový Zéland a později do Sydney, kde od té doby žije.
