Lawrence Ferlinghetti is a legend in contemporary poetry.
His name is twinned with City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco and City
Lights Publications, which has rebelled against censor-ship and conservatism
since the launch of the Pocket Poets Series in 1955. Within a year City
Lights had published Allen Ginsberg’s Howl and Other Poems, the book that
revolutionised American poetry and American consciousness.
